Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, stated that it is against the reopening of universities due to concerns over its members contracting Covid-19.
This was disclosed by the ASUU’s National President, Biodun Ogunyemi, in an interview with Channels TV this morning.

- “Our concern is rooted in the safety of our members. What happens to congested hostels, crowded classrooms? What flexible arrangements are in place? It is a situation of emergency. I’m not sure the Universities can cope.

On measures schools have taken to ensure the safety of staff and students, the ASUU President said the efforts being made are “limited”.
- “We are aware that some universities are putting measures in place, with alternative learning models.”

He warned that the efforts can only go far to a certain point as Universities and students need extra assistance to deal with the change to virtual learning.
- “But these efforts are limited. They get to a point they can’t go further. ASUU has been talking about revitalisation since 2012. These are some of the areas where the assistance would have helped. Universities need huge funds to do this. People are saying start virtual classes, but more than 60 percent of our students will run into trouble – they can’t afford data or smartphones.”

- Nairametrics reported earlier that Union leaders of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) disclosed that Nigerian Universities are not prepared for the resumption of operations due to lack of preparatory materials to handle the Covid-19 pandemic for students and teachers.
- Dr Adeola Egbedokun, Union Chairman at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Osun State had stated that the union cannot afford to mess with the health of its students and warned that no preparatory measures have been put in place to deal with the pandemic.

I pray all these should come to an end cos someone is tired of sitting at home doing nothing,am a final year student suppose to graduate last year, only God knows when someone will graduate now, covid-19 please leave us in peace u have done more harm than good,pls God interven nd show us mercy.
What about the collages n polytechnics
Is thier staffs resistance to covid19? Is it not dsame humans students and lectures. Both Asuu and FG are wicked, heartless and selfish. Just say u are still after the revitalization fee. Ur deeds will surely go after u n ur children. God will never give u rest
ASUU members are so mentally lazy. The can not think and proffer solutions on how to manage the situation as regards school resumption. They should also wait for FG, like primary and secondary schools to do that for them. So shameful. In other places, the universities are in fore front of the solution
This is so unfair, the market places where people interact everyday and make contacts won’t close because of the second wave of Corona, borders have been reopened, NIN registration is still ongoing with so many crowds, Even with the protests there was no Corona again, everyone forgot but immediately school decided to resume, boom! There’s a second wave of Corona because your children’s are schooling abroad.
There must be a selfish reason to this decision and we all know it.
