Below is a list of the major pharmacy chains shaping Nigeria’s healthcare retail landscape in 2025.

HealthPlus Pharmacy  

HealthPlus Pharmacy, founded in 1999 by UK-trained pharmacist Bukky George, is one of Nigeria’s most recognisable and expansive pharmaceutical retail chains.

As the country’s first integrative pharmacy, HealthPlus combines conventional medicines with wellness products, natural remedies, and lifestyle essentials, setting a benchmark for holistic healthcare retail.

The chain provides a wide range of customer-focused services, including asthma support, blood glucose testing, blood pressure checks, medicine-use reviews, travel health services, weight management consultations, among others.

With an extensive network of stores across major cities—particularly Lagos and Abuja—HealthPlus has also strengthened its digital footprint through an advanced online shopping platform, offering customers convenience, accessibility, and product variety.

Founded in 1985 by Sir Ike Onyechi, the company has built a strong reputation as the go-to provider for specialty pharmaceuticals, advanced treatments, and imported medical therapies—making it indispensable to healthcare professionals and patients with unique or complex medical needs.

Alpha Pharmacy’s areas of specialisation include anaesthesia, IVF/obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, nephrology, and oncology products. The company is also a major distributor of medical equipment for GE USA, further solidifying its role in Nigeria’s specialised healthcare supply chain.

Despite pricing concerns, Alpha Pharmacy remains a vital player in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical landscape, especially for those requiring specialised medical solutions.

Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc. 

Neimeth International Pharmaceuticals Plc emerged after a management buyout led by Mazi Sam I. Ohuabunwa, following Pfizer Inc.’s decision to divest its 60% equity stake in Pfizer Products Plc. The buyout, completed in May 1997, came as part of Pfizer’s global repositioning strategy, allowing the existing management team in Nigeria to take full operational control and rebrand the company as Neimeth.

However, some customers expressed concerns about the affordability of certain Neimeth products, noting that while quality is high, pricing can be a barrier for lower-income patients.

Zolon Healthcare

Apollo Pharmacy is another notable chain with increasing visibility across Nigeria, operating branches in several major cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Onitsha, and Port Harcourt. The chain is part of the wider Apollo Hospitals Group, founded by Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, a globally recognised pioneer in healthcare services.

Known for its broad product range and customer-focused retail approach, Apollo Pharmacy has steadily built a loyal consumer base and continues to expand its footprint in the country’s competitive pharmaceutical market.
