Covid-19: Nasarawa State vaccinates 45.88% of eligible population

The Nasarawa State Government is the closest towards vaccinating 50% of its eligible population by the end of January 2022 as it has so far vaccinated 45.88% of its eligible population.

This was disclosed by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency in a report on Tuesday.

Governors Abdullahu Sule (Nasarwawa) and Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa) were the top 2 ranked governors according to the index by the NPHCDA.

What they are saying

The ranking revealed that Nasarawa has vaccinated 45.88% of its eligible population, followed by Jigawa at 39.44%, Ogun at 18.17% and Oyo at 14.73%.

Lagos State so far has only vaccinated 8.19% of its eligible population, the FCT at 4.71%.

The 3 worst-ranked states are Imo (1.35%), Akwa Ibom (1.25%) and Bayelsa (0.91%)

The NPHCDA also revealed that Kano State leads with booster shots at 34,752 so far.

Nigeria’s Covid vaccination exercise hit a couple of roadblocks recently, as over a million vaccines had to be disposed of due to expiration with accounts of donated vaccines to Nigeria being sent a few months towards their expiration dates.

However, the ranking shows Nigeria’s 2 major economic hubs are well below the 10% benchmark towards achieving 50% vaccination rate as the IMF and World Bank warn that low vaccination rates would affect Africa’s economic recovery from the effects of the pandemic.
