The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied reports of mass failure in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) across the country.
The examination body has also insisted that all UTME questions were based on the syllabus prescribed for the UTME saying that it was issued to candidates through the board’s Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS), the CD which is given to candidates after completion of registration.
This disclosure was made available to the press by the Head, Public Affairs and Protocol of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, in Abuja, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Benjamin said that the news of mass failure was a fluke and a campaign by those whose source of illicit income had been blocked, saying the 2021 performance was not significantly different from those of previous years.
He said, “The board ordinarily would not have reacted to the half-truth being peddled by some disgruntled candidates, who were ill-prepared for the examination. And who, true to all expectations, performed below the expectations of their guardians, that the Board had based its questions on the wrong syllabus.
It is our belief that based on facts on the ground, every right-thinking Nigerian would question the 6,944,368 figure on which the 14 per cent “pass” is based. For instance, in the 2021 UTME, 1, 415,501 registered for both UTME/DE. Out of this figure, 1,340,003 candidates registered for UTME and 75, 498 registered for DE.’’

Benjamin pointed out that the examination body had to make the syllabus available to 3 platforms in order to ensure that it is accessible to all candidates sitting for the examinations.
He added, “The syllabus was issued to candidates through the board’s Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS), the CD which is given to candidates after completion of registration.

It is not automatic that the NECO/WAEC syllabus should transform into JAMB’s otherwise there would not have been a need for a separate syllabus for the UTME.”
He said that a total number of 1,300,722 candidates took the UTME with 78,389 candidates reported to be absent.

- It can be recalled that on June 25, 2021, JAMB released the results of candidates who sat for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) between June 19 and June 22 in over 720 CBT centres.
- While stating that it would review CCTV footage for detection of possible examination malpractices, the board said that some results are being withheld for further investigation.
- JAMB also said that the candidates would get their results as soon as they follow the instructions given to check results adding that the results for subsequent days would however be released daily.

My sister prepared so hard for this exam with my instructions and classes in a basic program she’s running in the University of portharcourt, only for her to get a score lower than even 160. This is so discouraging for a child who have written Jamb twice already.

Jamb don’t want student to enter into school this year, because so many that wrote last year and last two years have not enter into school,so if adding this year to it, it will be jam-packed and crowded.

If you have money, you may consider private universities. But if no such money please never get discourage, just get Jamb syllabus buy advance text books with prayers success is yours.
Very stupid people, I knew what I wrote but the fail me by giving me 171 I study hard for this exams having sleepless nights…but just imagine a friend of mine who has never ever carry book for once in the name of jamb preparation scored 230 and is not like he is even brilliant

Exactly what’s on my mind, I still can’t believe in the result they gave me.. I am really sure of my answers and based on how much I prepared, there was a systematic error from jamb on my result

I am not really sure if the results they gave to us because most of us performed well . They should just give those that scored below 200 evtra 20 or 40 marks

As for me, I really dont think adding some certain marks to candidates mark is the best. Why can’t the board reveal what’s really happening to the students result. For instance, I have someone that scores 262 last year Jamb and the person chose Unilorin, Chemical Engineering with 230 as the course cutoff mark but till now, he has not been admitted. WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING TO OUR CHILDREN EDUCATION IN NIGERIA
