President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that his administration will protect all religious and ethnic groups in Nigeria. This came after reports of violence between Yoruba and Hausa/Fulani ethnic groups in the Shasha area of Oyo state.

This was disclosed by the media aide to the President, Garba Shehu on Sunday night.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed that his government will protect all religious and ethnic groups, whether majority or minority in line with its responsibility under the constitution,” he said.

He added that in a reaction to reports of a breakout of violence in some parts of the country by some ethnic and sectional groups,” President Buhari warned that the government will not allow any ethnic or religious group to stoke up hatred and violence against other groups.”

Shehu disclosed that Buhari has “appealed to religious and traditional leaders as well governors and other elected leaders across the country to join hands with the Federal Government to ensure that communities in their domain are not splintered along ethnic and other primordial lines.”

In case you missed it: There was an outbreak of violence in the Shasha market area of Oyo State on Saturday morning between Yorubas and Hausa/Fulanis.
