The Nigerian Army announced that it will commence a nationwide Exercise Crocodile Smile VI from the 20th of October to the 31st of December. It will be a cyber warfare exercise designed to identify, track and counter negative propaganda on social media.
The Army disclosed this in a statement on Saturday as protests continue over police brutality. The #EndSARS protests which started online is growing into a strong offline movement and the Nigerian Army’s announcement seems to be a response to counter the narratives set online by the protesters.

Recall Nairameterics reported last week that the Nigerian Army said that it is highly committed to defending Nigeria’s democracy at all costs and warned “trouble makers to desist from such acts” as the #EndSARS protests continued.

In Saturday’s statement, the Army says it will resume the annual exercise which is usually conducted in the last quarter of the year, and 2020’s edition is scheduled to commence from the 20th of October to the 31st of December 2020.

“The Exercise is deliberately intended to be all encompassing to include cyber warfare exercises designed to identify, track and counter negative propaganda in the social media and across the cyberspace.
“This is the first-ever Cyberwarfare exercise to be conducted in the history of the African Armed Forces. Accordingly, the exercise will also include positive identification component aimed at identifying Boko Haram terrorists fleeing from the North East and other parts of the country as a result of the ongoing operations in the various theatres of operations especially in the Northeast, North Central and North Western parts of Nigeria,” the Army said.

The Army says it is committed to the sustenance of peace and security in Nigeria and urges Nigerians for their support during the period of the exercise.

That’s Nigeria for you, let them finished with boko haram, they are looking for another source of where they will make money. The youth are not laying ambush. I don’t think Nigeria need them here.
The army have really lost its vision and direction. They can’t put an end to boko-haram for over ten years and counting but jump at every opportunity to tackle armless and toothless civilians fighting a just cause. I begin to wonder if they are the police. Am ashamed of the army and happy I did not enrol when I wanted to.
The army should mind their fight against boko-haram that is taking them over ten years with little success, and leave the protest for the police to handle. If they or any of their family members have been dealt with by SARS or the police they would probably understand the reason for the protest. The flex their weak muscle only on harmless, armless and toothless civilians. Shame on them.
If they are to stop cyber crime, then stop it online. Why take to the streets? That is to show we have got non-computer age army.
There is something called cyber space security. Go and learn and stop an online protest online. If it is offline, solve it offline. Don’t blame offline for online wahala.

To Nigeria Army please don’t get involved, don’t allow a few low,shallow minds and corrupt persons spoiled the reputation and integrity of the Army, 60years of independence and we have nothing to show for it, a few Elites reaping and milking the country and making us look like slaves in our country, are not tired of unseen battle all in the name of boko haram, every day noble soldiers are been killed, breadwinners lives are cut short, families are put into trauma, if u are not tired..I am, let’s stop pretending as if all is well, all is not well, please don’t get involved.

Does Nigerian Army still exits? They couldn’t fight Boko haram members for the past 8 years, now they are making noise trying to oppress civilians. A lot of officers died during the fight, but what has Nigerian government done for their families?
Sometimes, I do wander why military officers can not think for themselves and act right. But always their high rank officers thinking for them and giving them orders.
I prefer to be a “crazy civilian”.
Why can’t they use this kind of operation and strategy to conquer the bandits and the book haram elements.
