The Nigerian Stock Exchange ended the first trading session in 2019 on a negative note. The All Share Index closed at 31,070.06 basis points, down 1.15%. Year to date, the index is also down 1.15%, being the first trading day of the year.
Top Gainers and Losers
Julius Berger was the best performing stock today. The stock gained 10% to close at ₦22.10. Vitafoam Nigeria was next appreciating by 9.5% to close at ₦4.82. Royal Exchange Plc rounds up the top three gainers adding 9.1% to close at ₦0.24.
On the flip side, Nigerian Breweries shed 8.4% to close at ₦78.30. Law Union and Rock declined by 8.3% to clos at ₦0.55. Honeywell Flour rounds up the top three losers for today dropping 7.8% to close at ₦1.18.
Top Trades by volume
Diamond Bank was the most actively traded stock today. 50.6 million shares valued at ₦111 million were traded in 288 deals. Sovereign Trust Insurance was next with 32.9 million shares valued at ₦6.6 million traded in 42 deals. Access Bank rounds up the top three most actively traded. 20.7 millon shares valued at ₦136 million were traded in 199 deals.

Resort Savings and Loans released its results for the 2017 financial year. Gross earnings fell from ₦883 million in 2016 to ₦490 million in 2017. The company made a loss after tax of ₦947 million in 2017.
