Oil firm to bridge gap in Nigeria’s energy sector

Greenville Oil and Gas Company Limited makes major investment in LNG

In a bid to bridge the natural gas supply gap in Nigeria’s energy sector, Greenville Oil and Gas Company Limited has commissioned a $500 million Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The newly-inaugurated LNG plant will serve electricity generation plants that find it tough to get gas through pipelines.

The Chairman, Greenville LNG, Eddy Broeke, said the company’s intention to bridge the natural gas supply gap in the energy sector will also promote economic and social development and revive moribund industries across the country.

Broeke confirmed that over $450 million has been invested in the project, adding that the plant currently has a total capacity of 2,250 tonnes of LNG per day, which is about 750 million tonnes per year.

“This is because we have to build the whole infrastructure on our own, which includes the construction of filling stations for our product on strategic locations across the country,” Broeke added.

The revolution to be introduced

The newly inaugurated plant is expected to be a full revolution, especially in transportation methods. Greenville intends to bring into Nigeria and Africa at large, the first set of trucks that are fuelled by LNG.

This, according to Broeke, should reduce the price of transportation and logistics by about 35 to 40 per cent.
