Utor bridge Delta State

Delta State  Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan  last week in Asaba  inaugurated the fly-over bridge constructed  at the cost of N3.5 billion to ease the traffic jam within the metroplis.

The fly-over, awarded on August 6, 2013, was constructed over the existing two-lane roundabout, which was also expanded to three lane, was complemented with U-turns with independent entry and exit lanes.

The scope of the works includes a 120 metre-long six-span bridge, two ramps of about 140 metres each on either approach, bringing it to a total of 400 metres long.

The project became necessary because of the huge traffic that the existing two-lane roundabout had continued to witness and in response to the rapid geometrical urbanization growth in the connecting Core-Areas of Okpanam and Anwai/ Ugbolu axis of the state capital.

The Governor, who was in company with his Commissioner for Works, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, other top government functionaries and prominent traditional rulers from across the state,  said the fly-over will totally eliminate any traffic hitches at the intercession.

He said: “With this ceremony and the inauguration of  the Utor bridge at Ebu, a very short link to Edo state and thence Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Northern parts of the country has been provided, traffic will not only grow in leaps but would be very fast with heavy-duty trucks plying the Asaba-Illah route.

“This fly-over project with ancillary works will, therefore, majorly channel most of up-coming heavy highway traffic over the fly-over and save urban traffic and dwellers alike, the chaos and gridlocks as well as safety concerns it will otherwise portend.”

The governor  said project had justified his avowed determination to improve the quality of life of the people through rapid development and transformation of every part of the state.

He enjoined the people of the state to continue to support people-oriented projects and extend the same commitment to other projects the state is handling.
