Punch reports Josephine Ugwu, the airport cleaner who returned a passenger’s luggage containing local and foreign currencies to the tune of N12m has been rewarded with a N7,200 salary increment.

Ugwu, who works for Patovilki Cleaning Services, a concessionaire engaged by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to keep the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos clean, was on a monthly salary of N7,800 before the incident.

The National Diploma graduate of Our Saviour Institute of Science, Agriculture and Technology, Enugu, now enjoys a N7,200 salary increment, bringing her new salary to N15,000 even thought it is still way below the national minimum wage of N18,000 and below $100 per month.

What do you think? Was a 92% increase in her salary great reward? Will this increase motivate more people to return lost money when found?

This goes to show that there are still honest people in our mist. Her great reward is in Heaven and not the 92% increase.

It is indeed vey discouraging and frustarting for the type of compensation given to the lady. How far will N15,000 go in the period of economic downturn

i advise thatshe should be given gainful employment in another organisation since she has National Diploma .

The message to others including herself is that honesty does not pay in Nigeria. In her inner self she will be regretting her action in returning the money.

    regards
