Effective from 21^st of May, 2013 all products to be sold in any Nigerian market must be electronically registered with the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) or risk being confiscated and destroyed.

For those who don’t know the Standard Organization of Nigeria, they have the power to declare Mandatory Industrial Standards in Respect of products or processes recommended by the Nigerian Standards Council. Literally meaning they have the powers to approve anything produced in Nigeria. According to them, the move is in compliance with international standards.
