The Ikeja Electric Distribution Company (IKEDC) has dismissed rumours of a grid collapse, stating that it experienced a system outage on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 11:34 AM.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Saturday attributed the power fluctuations experienced in parts of the country to line tripping, dispelling rumors of a national grid collapse.
Adebayo Adelabu, the country’s minister for Power has shared a statement on what caused the national grid collapse that has resulted in the general power outage experienced all over the country.
TCN has reported a total of 46 grid collapses in the country spanning the period from 2017 to 2022.
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has said that the country did not record any national grid collapses in the fourth quarter of 2022.
They also blamed TCN’s refusal to fast-track construction of digital control centers and relying on its current analog system, and urged the Committee on Power, to investigate the causes of the reoccurring national grid collapse.
