FIBRE OPTIC CABLES

Charles Murito, Google’s head of government relations and public policy in Africa, has called on African governments to classify fibre optic cables as critical infrastructure to safeguard the continent’s communications backbone.
Stakeholders in the telecommunications industry have said the Federal Government’s plan to deploy 90,000 kilometers of fibre optic cables across the country will face several obstacles, especially from state governments, that might truncate the project.
The Federal Government and the World Bank are collaborating to raise the sum of $3 billion to fund additional 120,000km fibre optic cables to boost broadband infrastructure and connectivity in Nigeria.
